Commissioner’s Office

Welcome!
It is a pleasure to serve the State of Utah as the 7th Commissioner of Higher Education. The office has a rich history, starting in 1969 when the Board of Regents was created to provide greater coordination among state’s colleges, universities, and applied technology centers. The most famous emeritus of the Commissioner’s office is T.H. Bell, who became U.S. Secretary of Education under President Reagan.
The office oversees a talented group of professionals (see contacts in the right “sidebar”) who are committed to improving higher education in Utah.
We are presently in the middle of an extensive planning initiative, aligning education in Utah to attain the goal of 66% of the adult population having some form of post secondary education credential by 2020.
Regents have identified three goals for our office: increasing participation, improving retention and engaging in economic development activities. These three goals help focus our energy and align nicely with the longer range goal of 66% by 2020.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact me via email; or (801) 321-7103. The executive secretary to me and the Board of Regents is Kirsten Schroeder and can be contacted via email or by phone (801) 321-7103. You can also visit us on Facebook here.
Sincerely,
