Credit Union Buys Naming Rights to UVU Events Center
(Salt Lake Tribune) – A new moniker and logo were announced Monday for Utah Valley University’s arena: UCCU Center.
The Utah Community Credit Union, based in Provo, purchased naming rights for the next 10 years for $2.5 million .
The center, formerly known as the David O. McKay Special Events Center, was built as a partnership between UVU, Utah County and Orem. Family members of the LDS Church leader and educator donated $3 million to support the project and permanently name it after McKay in 1995.
The idea to sell the naming rights to someone else came from the McKay family, said Val Hale, UVU’s vice president for institutional advancement. He said the family decided 15 years was long enough, and wanted to give someone else a chance to help fund the university.
