IMPORTANT NOTICE: We are pleased to announce that the Legislature, in partnership with the Governor, appropriated a significant amount of one-time money for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2010, to fund both the New Century and Regents’ Scholarships (Exemplary) at the award level of 70% tuition for the college academic year of 2010-11 (Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 Semesters). This is a tremendous commitment from our policymakers to qualified recipients during one of the state’s most severe budget crises.
Even so, the new money appropriated is less than what is needed to provide the maximum award value of 75% of tuition for the upcoming academic year. It is critical for you to be aware that award amounts are determined on an annual basis and are subject to legislative funding and number of qualified participants. Therefore, award amounts may be reduced, may vary from year to year, and are dependent on when the recipient is enrolled in college. Funding levels beyond Spring semester 2011 are unknown.
Please be advised for 2011-2012 college academic year and beyond, the awards for current participants and new students will be at a set dollar amount rather than a percentage of tuition. The award level will be announced each April for the upcoming academic year, based on funding appropriated by the Legislature and the number of qualified and expected recipients.
Please click below on each scholarship and review the updated information provided. A number of program changes go into effect this summer that will impact current participants and 2010 recipients. Additionally, there have been significant changes to the New Century Scholarship requirements for 2011 applicants and beyond. These scholarships may continue to be refined and altered on an annual basis and as result of legislation. Therefore, it is important that you use this website as your resource for the most up-to-date information. Do not rely on past application packets as the information is out-of-date.
**Please Note:
- The application deadline for both scholarships for the 2010-2011 academic year has passed.
- Current recipients who plan to use the scholarship award for Summer semester 2010 need to call the respective Program Administrator listed below prior to the start of summer semester so that you might be advised of program changes that affect your eligibility.
The Utah State Board of Regents remains supportive of these scholarships. The outlined scholarships are only two of the many resources available to help students pay for a college education. We advise students to explore every option for financing their education. Options include:
- Contact the financial aid office at the institution the student plans to attend to explore other financial resources.
- Apply for other grants and/or scholarships. To access a more complete listing of scholarships available visit:
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid as early as possible. More information is available at fafsa.ed.gov. Use student loans wisely after other financial options have been fully explored.
- Consider work study or other employment on or off campus.
