Utah State celebrating 122nd birthday

Story Updated: Mar 1, 2010 at 2:53 PM MST

Utah State University is turning 122 years old and the blue light atop Old Main will light the night sky Friday, March 5th to celebrate the occasion. The Founders Day celebration, hosted by the Utah State Alumni Association, is Friday evening in the Evan Stevenson Ballroom of the Taggart Student Center at USU.

Utah State, originally the Agricultural College of Utah, opened its doors to a handful of students during its first years. In 1888 students could choose from five majors or career options.

Today’s students select from 230 courses of study offered in 45 departments housed in six colleges and one school: Agriculture, Education and Human Services, Engineering, Humanities Arts and Social Sciences, Natural Resources, Science and the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business.
