New Assistant Commissioner for Academic Affairs named
SLCC Career Education Vice Provost makes move to higher ed office
SALT LAKE CITY – Blair Carruth has been named Assistant Commissioner for Academic Affairs for the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE).
Carruth comes to USHE from Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) where he has spent over two decades in a number of administrative roles. Most recently, Carruth served as SLCC’s Vice Provost for Community Development and Career Education with a specific focus on Career and Technical Education, Distance Education and Concurrent Enrollment. “My time spent at Salt Lake Community College has been invaluable, and I am honored to have worked with such amazing faculty, staff and students in helping career and technical education programs succeed,” says Carruth. “I look forward to continuing this important work within the state higher education system.”
Associate Commissioner of Academic Affairs Elizabeth Hitch says, “We are looking forward to utilizing Blair’s experience as we continue to provide quality career and technical education programs within our institutions of higher learning.” Carruth’s background and experience will make him a valuable asset in fulfilling the responsibilities of the Academic Affairs office. Currently a member of the Board of Directors for the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs, Carruth brings to USHE valuable skills on national-level boards. He also holds a baccalaureate degree from the University of Utah, Master of Business Administration from Utah State University and a Ph. D. from the University of Wyoming.
Carruth begins his new role July 1. He replaces current Academic Affairs Assistant Commissioner Gary Wixom who at that time will begin phased retirement after 39 years in Utah’s higher education system.
