New board member sworn in at State Board of Regents meeting
SALT LAKE CITY – Governor Gary R. Herbert has appointed Springville Mayor Wilford W. Clyde as a new member of the State Board of Regents. At Utah Valley University today, Mayor Clyde took his oath of office during the last Board of Regents meeting for 2011.
“Mayor Clyde is not only an excellent civic leader, but also a successful business leader who is very active in his community,” said Board of Regents Chair David Jordan. “His wealth of expertise and experience in a variety of areas, as well as his previous work as Chairman of the UVU Board of Trustees, will contribute greatly to the efforts of the Board of Regents.”
Clyde grew up in Springville where he has served the community in many capacities including Chairman of the Utah manufacturers Association, President of the Utah Chapter of the Associated General Contractors and member of the BYU Construction Management Advisory Committee. In addition to leading the city of Springville, Clyde is the current President and CEO of Clyde Companies, Inc., the parent company of WW Clyde and Co., Geneva Rock Products, Sunroc, Gorge Rock and Beehive Insurance. He and his wife Natalie have four daughters and five grandchildren—all residents of Springville.
Clyde’s appointment fills the vacancy left when Governor Herbert appointed former Regent Brent Brown earlier this year to the Board of Economic Development.
