One-Stop Financial Aid Shop Helps Utah’s Moms Further Education
SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority (UHEAA) will hold their first ever Single Mom Financial Aid assistance day Saturday April 2, 2011 from 10 am to noon in the Markosian Library Computer Lab (2nd floor) on the Salt Lake Community College Taylorsville Redwood Campus, 4600 South Redwood Road.
This event is for Utah’s single moms who wish to go back to school to further their careers, but need some guidance on how to pay for it. Representatives from UHEAA will be on hand to assist in filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the documentation that determines which types of financial aid are available. And since tax day is right around the corner, accounting students from University of Utah’s Business School will provide free tax preparation assistance for single moms making under $49K yearly (some restrictions may apply).
“We understand how overwhelming it must feel for single moms who work, take care of their children and try to get back into higher education, and we wanted to lessen that burden,” said UHEAA Executive Director David Feitz. “Many women may not realize that financial aid assistance is available and our UHEAA staff is eager to lend a hand in filling out that sometimes-confusing FAFSA application.” Feitz adds, “We are also thrilled that the U of U accounting students are providing free tax prep for single moms who attend.”
Attendees should bring with them all pertinent tax information. For more information about this event or to register online, visit http://singlemomfafsa.eventbrite.com.
