Regent Bonnie Jean Beesley elected as Board of Regents Chair
SALT LAKE CITY – The State Board of Regents has elected Regent Bonnie Jean Beesley to serve as Chair-Elect, to be the new Board Chair this summer taking the place of David Jordan, who has served as chair since 2010. Regent Dan Campbell was voted as Vice Chair Elect.
Beesley, of Salt Lake City, was first appointed to the Board of Regents in 2003. She was elected Vice Chair in 2006 and has served in that role since then. She has been active with numerous organizations throughout the community, including serving on the Salt Lake Community College Board of Trustees for seven years. “Increasingly, our quality of life as individuals, families and as a community is determined by our level of educational attainment and higher education is essential in achieving Utah’s Big Goal—66% of all Utahns ages 25-64 holding a post-secondary degree or certificate by 2020,” said Beesley. “I deeply appreciate the opportunity to serve, starting later this year, as chair of the Board of Regents and to work with all the regents, our state officials and our educators.”
Campbell, of Provo, is a managing general partner at EsNet Group, a privately held investment company. He previously served as a member of Utah Valley University’s Board of Trustees, as well as the Board of Governors for the Provo School District Foundation and is a National Advisory Council member for Brigham Young University’s Marriott School of Management. Campbell said, “I look forward to my new position in Board of Regents leadership and am excited to contribute to the growth and prosperity of higher education in Utah.”
