Regents approve Dixie university plan
(Brian Maffly, Salt Lake Tribune) - The State Board of Regents Friday approved a plan for Dixie College to transition to a regional university within three to five years.
The St. George school will need to hire 60 full-time faculty and make a $9 million investment in new programs to make the leap, according to Dixie president Stephen Nadauld.
Enrollment at the school is now 8,755, a 40 percent increase over enrollment in fall of 2007.
The transition plan replaces an initiative discussed several years ago that would have made Dixie an affiliate of the University of Utah.
