Salt Lake Tribune gives USHE Planning Site a “Thumb Up”
(Salt Lake Tribune) – THUMB UP: Have your say • A new website will let the folks whose taxes pay a good share of the costs of Utah higher education sound off about proposals to make the system better. The site — www.higheredutah2020.org — also offers Utahns suggestions on proposals aimed at getting more Utah residents through college with degrees. The goal is to have at least 55 percent of the state’s workforce with at least an associate’s degree, and a minimum of 11 percent with a postsecondary certificate by 2020. Some ideas listed by the Board of Regents for helping accomplish the goal include: a corps of volunteers to provide career guidance, more classes and programs offered on evenings and weekends and better communication between public school administrators and higher-education institutions about how to prepare students for success in college. Visitors to the site can click “like” or “dislike,” or submit comments. The more input on such ideas, the better, especially from parents, students and others who deal with education every day.
