Real Life College Student Blog: King Arthur, Advanced Placement, Concurrent Enrollment and YOU

In the movie Monty Python’s Holy Grail, King Arthur of the Britons is charged with taking a sacred journey to recover one of the most revered relics of all time. He travels to distant lands, forms a band of some of the greatest knights of his era, and withstands wave after wave of ruthless taunting by the French. True to typical blogging form, I will now explain, through a vague and overextended metaphor, how an awesome parody of an Anglican myth relates to your college experience.

“Real Life College Student” Blog: Summertime!

What to do in the impending summer months? Will you be taking on a job or two to earn the big bucks? Doing an internship? Or is this a summer to relax? A few months ago, when deciding what to do with some extra time, I had a difficult time settling on what I’d like to do. I had made pro and con lists, and each decision had good and bad points. I was approached by a friend who suggested I ask myself this question: “Which of the options would be more memorable? In a decade, will you still remember the experience or not?” She suggested I take to the route that would mean most to me throughout my life and that would be a memory to cherish.

“Real Life College Student” Blog: Be a Volunteer

Realizing what drives you to volunteer will aid you in finding the perfect volunteer organization. Is it to be challenged or to make an impact? It is to share or develop a skill? Is it a desire to enhance your resume? Is it guilt? Some reasons may be better than others, but the bottom line is everyone can serve.

“Real Life College Student” Blog: Internships

Internships are extremely helpful in securing a future position at your desired place of employment. Fredonia.edu, reported that “on average, more than 50 percent of students are offered a full-time job after completing an internship.” Statistically, it is in your favor to complete an internship, particularly with the company where you see yourself in 10 or 20 years. The benefits of taking on an internship far outweigh reasons not to do an internship.
