University of Utah Engineering Events – Engineer Your Life

The UofU College of Engineering is working diligently to find and educate more great engineering students. Spend a half-day at the U and discover whether a career in engineering is in your future. Meet engineering students and ask them about their experience at the U. Talk with undergraduate advisors about various engineering programs.Visit with faculty and find out how to make the most of youreducation.     INTRO TO ENTERTAINMENT ARTS AND ENGINEERING

    • 9AM to 5PM
    • Cost: $200 per Week
    For 9th – 12th Grade StudentsStudents Design and Build a Digital Character of their choice for games, animations or machinima. The Entertainment Arts and Engineering Summer Program (EAESP) in computer graphics for high school students combines theory with practical projects, enabling students to understand computer graphics at a high level. The EAESP will introduce high school students to the concepts of 3D modeling, texturing, rigging, animation, and rendering, using some of the most advanced software in the industry such as Autodesk Maya and Adobe Photoshop.

    HI-GEAR  

    •  June 13-17, 9:00 am – 4:30 pmCost: Day Campers $75During the last generation we have gained a better understanding of the link between th eenvironment and our health. Changes to our environment can affect the quality of our air, water and food supply. Engineers have developed new, environmentally-friendly technologies to reduce human impact and environmental change. Learn more about how this impacts society and leads to many of the innovations that we enjoy in our daily lives.
    •  Residential Campers $150 (Scholarships available—based on financial need)
    •   For 9th – 12th
    Grade GirlsHi-GEAR is designed to expose students to a variety of engineering and computer science careers with hands-on experiential learning and collaborative team projects. Past activities include building structures to withstand over 10,000 lbs, making perfume using distillation, programming and racing robots, extracting DNA, building rockets, building radios and engineering tours of Lagoon. Participants interact daily with female engineering college students who guide them through the program.

    4th Annual Utah Youth Summit: Engineering For a Greener

    Great CAMP
     
     
     

    • Dates: Six one-week camps in June and July (specific dates to be announced)
    • Cost: varies

    The GREAT summer camps are aimed at kids who want to unleash their creativity while learning about computer graphics, robotics and programming by making games, animations, and robots.

    GREAT-Elementary: A week-long camp for entering 4th, 5th, and 6th graders which uses a fun programming environment called Scratch to make animations and games. No prior experience is necessary. This camp runs from 9AM-noon, M-F. A snack is provided.
    GREAT-Middle school: A week-long camp for entering 7th, 8th, and 9th graders which uses a 3D programming world called Alice for 3D animations and games, followed by building and programming LEGO Mindstorms robots to compete in various challenges. This camp runs from 9AM-3PM, M-F. Lunch is provided.
    GREAT-Advanced Robotics: A week-long camp for entering 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. Campers will build wacky or useful machines that react to the world and to people using embedded computers, sensors, and motors. This camp runs from 9AM-3PM, M-F. Lunch is provided.
    GREAT-Advanced Programming: A two-week-long camp for entering 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. Campers will learn the popular Python programming language and use it to write games by themselves and in groups. This camp runs from 9AM-3PM, M-F. This camp is aimed at students who show some interest in or aptitude for computers, programming, or math. Lunch is provided. For More Information: http://www.cs.utah.edu/camps
