University of Utah program helps Shoshone youths keep language alive (Deseret News)

SALT LAKE CITY — Young people hoping to rescue Shoshone from the brink of being an endangered language got a boost from the University of Utah this summer.
This was the second year of the six-week Shoshone Youth Language Apprenticeship Program, which provided college-credit language instruction and paid, hands-on experience for nine Shoshone and Goshute high school students from throughout the Great Basin region. They will present a talking dictionary, children’s story books and a “claymation” video at a closing reception Friday at 7 p.m. at the S.J. Quinney College of Law House, 161 Officers Circle.
