USU grad student looks for children with OCD for study (Herald Journal)
A Utah State University psychology student is seeking children ages 7 to 17 for a research project on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
Study participants will receive free treatment for the condition using a popular counseling method that has proven helpful for similar problems.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) focuses on reducing compulsions by finding ways to coexist with stressful thoughts, according to study administrator Andrew Armstrong, a doctoral student in USU’s combined clinical, counseling and school psychology program.
“The goal is to do what you need to do in spite of the anxiety,” Armstrong said.
