Utah Women’s College Task Force looks to help females graduate
Yesterday, the Utah Women’s College Task Force presented recommendations to the Governor’s Education Excellence Commission on how to increase the number of Utah females attending and graduating college to contribute to the state’s 66% goal.
The group has spent the last year looking into why Utah has the lowest rate in the nation for females graduating from college, and hopes to implement efforts to help women realize the importance of finishing a college degree. Task Force Co-chair and State Board of Regents Chair-Elect Bonnie Jean Beesley told the group, “Whether you are seeking a career in the workplace or in the home, it’s important to have an education.” UVU’s Susan Madsen adds, ” More educated mothers have more educated daughters and more educated sons.”
Recommendations from the Task Force include increased funding for college enrollment growth, promotion of a “college-going culture,” flexible course scheduling, expanded college counseling, and increased mentoring programs for women.
